Teacher Quality Index: Building Level Protocol

Purposes of the Building Level Interview

  • To elicit more in-depth information than the screening interview, and
  • To encourage applicants to discuss instructional delivery expertise, planning, and assessment functions of teaching.

The Building Level Interview Protocol:

  • Is designed to take approximately 35-45 minutes,
  • Contains 13 items distributed across the six qualities of effective teachers, and
  • Works best when conducted by an interview team.

PROMPT

Share with me a time you had to seriously consider what to do after several students did not perform satisfactorily. Describe the situation, your actions, and the subsequent outcome.

Sample Quality Indicators

·         Identifies teacher as responsible for student learning

·         Identifies instruction and assessment as possible sources for failure

·         Identifies corrective measures

The applicant places responsibility for student achievement on student and takes little to no personal responsibility.

The applicant recognizes that a problem exists but does not re-teach or reassess.

The applicant identifies self as integral component in teaching and learning. Identifies some strategies for addressing poor performance.

The applicant clearly identifies possible sources for poor student performance and appropriately aligns corrective measures.
