Purposes of the Building Level Interview

To elicit more in-depth information than the screening interview, and
To encourage applicants to discuss instructional delivery expertise, planning, and assessment functions of teaching.

The Building Level Interview Protocol:

Is designed to take approximately 35-45 minutes,
Contains 13 items distributed across the six qualities of effective teachers, and
Works best when conducted by an interview team.

PROMPT

Share with me a time you had to seriously consider what to do after several students did not perform satisfactorily. Describe the situation, your actions, and the subsequent outcome.

Sample Quality Indicators

· Identifies teacher as responsible for student learning

· Identifies instruction and assessment as possible sources for failure

· Identifies corrective measures

The applicant recognizes that a problem exists but does not re-teach or reassess.

The applicant clearly identifies possible sources for poor student performance and appropriately aligns corrective measures.
